CAM2GO is a mobile app and self–service kiosk that can conveniently allow more people to use high quality cameras (instead of smartphones) to take photos. This group project is dedicated to helping expand the market for camera companies. This project was made in collaboration with Chris Regan, Amal Ben El Hadj, Woojin Lee, Gianluca Martini, Jeehye Choi, and Injun Kim.
Why are camera companies losing such a large market share to smartphone companies? As a group we brainstormed, conducted surveys, created three unique personas and journeys, and found a solution to our prompt.
We consolidated our ideas and created surveys to further our research; the results were that the majority of photos people took were uploaded and shared to social media. 50% used their smartphone filters and 50% edited on their computers using Lightroom/Photoshop, and users considered the price and brand of cameras before buying. Our surveys also concluded that DSLR cameras were good for their quality, control, and interchangeable lenses, but fell short when it came to size, weight, and maintenance.
We created three personas with journeys and came to a conclusion for each user. Our personas were each of different occupation, lifestyle, and age group.
Our solution was to create a mobile app and self-service kiosk to allow more access to high quality cameras. This service is a membership-based camera rental provider that is located in dense tourist locations. Users will be able to choose different brands and models of cameras through the app, set their pick-up time, kiosk, and pick up and return location.
